Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Jacob has been taking a little kid theater class taught by our friend Phoebe. He has just loved going “Stage Coach” which is the name of the program. We drop him off and other than hearing from Phoebe that he’s enjoying himself, well you don’t have much of a sense of what goes on. But unlike pre-school, a theater program has a performance.

Wizard of Oz Lite, performed by 4-6 year-olds was a hoot. Jacob was cast (by lottery) as Dorothy’s Uncle Henry and later in the show as a munchkin. (Sadly there were no flying monkeys.) As Uncle Henry Jacob had the line, “I don’t like the look of that sky at all.” We are so proud of him for already playing the old man who foreshadows the weather event…

The video below tells the story best in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds. He says his line, he gets distracted and shadow boxes the set, he dances and sings, the Fairy Princess hits him with her wand and finally…he drops from pure exhaustion during the curtain call. You think that’d take more than two minutes and in fact it did but the edited version gets you there quicker.

Yeah, Jake! Your mother’s theatrical genes come through. I loved the shadow dancing–it’s just Uncle Henry in an alternative universe. Those tornadoes do funny things. Your line was delivered with style and grace.

    Loved it!

We thought Jake did a great job as a Munchkin. His stage presence was just magnificent. We also thought he handled the various leading ladies well with just the right level of aloofness. Can he introduce us to any other movie stars?

Enthralling performance. I laughed, I cried! He obviously gets the drama from Suz and the amazing focus from Jim!
